Description

Simply is the simplest altimeter for rockets: The new Altimax G4 Simply. Suitable for recovery tasks or for two-stage recovery, also as a backup to other altimeters. Airstarts of black powder engines with starter detection and at 30 m altitude are also possible. It is a further development based on the very successful Altimax Simply and can be used universally.
This new development introduces the new safety functions FETCHECK and BROWNOUTPROTECT , two features that are unique to rocket altimeters and improve safety enormously.
Features:

  • Altimeter for low- and high-power rockets
  • Measures air pressure, does not store flight data
  • 2 pyro outputs
  • Very robust power supply, reverse polarity protected and short-circuit proof
  • Current now up to 15A!
  • FETCHECK checks the output transistors for function and errors before starting
  • BROWNOUTPROTECT regulates the ignition current so that no more resets can occur
  • 16 different operating modes can be set with a rotary switch, including channel 1 at the summit or 2 seconds later, channel 2 at 60, 90, 120, 150 or 200 m. Plus 4 modes for airstarts and an automatic ignition test.
  • Flight ready out of the box, connect and fly!
  • High-precision calibrated and temperature-compensated pressure sensor.
  • New design with flat underside
  • 2 variants: 8-pin connector or screw terminal
  • 3.2 mm hole for M3 screws
  • 1:1 interchangeable with an Altimax Simply 2016 or 2018

Technical data:

  • Dimension 50×21 mm
  • Weight 6 g
  • Input voltage: 7.0 – 12 V
  • Current consumption approx. 23 mA
  • Pressure range 10 – 1200 hpa
  • Altitude range -170 – 31000 m ü.N.N
  • Number of ignition channels 2
  • Max. Zinc current: 15A
  • Duration 3 seconds
  • Current voltage = battery voltage
  • Max. Zapping current 15 A
  • Resolution height approx. +- 0.15 m
  • Sampling rate print 204,800 sps

New safety functions:

The Simply has 2 ignition outputs in open-source circuitry, for ignition of igniters of different types. Up to 15A current is supplied, the ignition time is 3 seconds. The outputs are monitored with FETCHECK and BROWNOUTPROTECT üwhich greatly increases safety. High currents can thus be supplied safely, and a good cooling concept ensures that the transistors are not overloaded. High-current igniters can now also be used! For example, it is now also possible to detect Aerotech motors in the air.

FETCHECK

With FETCHECK, the Altimax G4 has the option of testing the ignition transistors before flight. In the first step, the FETs are checked to ensure that they can switch. If this is successful, they are checked to see whether they are permanently conducting due to damage. Both conditions can occur due to overload and would either prevent the ignition of an igniter or, worse, the igniter from being ignited immediately after arming. FETCHECK prevents this; if an error is detected, the altimeter goes into alarm mode and does not enable the ignition outputs, so the igniters receive no voltage and cannot trigger.
BROWNOUTPROTECT

This new safety function prevents a voltage drop during an ignition process, which could otherwise lead to a system reset. The battery voltage is continuously monitored; if it drops below 5.5V due to a zapping process and correspondingly high current drain, the zapping current is repeatedly limited for a short time so that the voltage can rise again. The reaction time is in the microsecond range and pulses the ignition current so that the CPU core always receives sufficient voltage, thus avoiding a reset. Nevertheless, the cogs receive sufficient current for safe ignition, as they are quite slow and hardly cool down during the short current interruptions, thus maintaining the ignition process;

Possible settings via coding switch:

There are 2 modes for channel 1: Either at the peak or 2 seconds after.
For channel 2 there are 5 different outputs: When falling below 60, 90, 120, 150 or 200 m.
The standard mode is completely without jumper, then channel 1 is triggered at the peak and channel 2 is triggered when the distance falls below 150 m. Modes for channel 1 and channel 2 can be combined. It doesn’t matter which way you hold the board, the plug-in patterns work the same in both directions!

4 special modes for airstarts are also included, with channel 1 being triggered at the apex and channel 2 being triggered either on start detection or when the altitude exceeds 30 m.
In addition, you can activate an automatic ignition test via the jumper position, which activates the ignition output after 20 seconds, very useful for ejection tests on the ground.

The Altimax G4 Simply is supplied with the setting for two-stage rescue (summit / 150m) and can be used immediately.

The Altimax G4 Simply has a sturdy 8-pin plug for connection to the rocket. A socket with approx. 25 cm long cables is supplied, to which switches and terminals can be connected directly. The plug principle makes it easy to swap between rockets, the plugs ensure a very secure contact, far more secure than screw terminals. Additional cables are available at a reasonable price. The Altimax Simply is plug-compatible with the old Simply, the Altimax mini and Altimax G2 mini.
Also available as a version with screw terminal
