Our parachute heat shields are square cuts of heat-resistant cloth suitable for wrapping parachutes and protecting them from the harsh ejection charges. They are a great alternative to parachute wadding.
Heat shields are sized on the square raw cloth size prior to hemming and stitching. Please note that the resulting heat shield size is therefore a little smaller than the ‘nominal’ sizing. For example: A 50mm square sheet may measure 40mm by 40mm after hemming and stitching.
You should aim to size your heat shield for 2-3 times your tube diameter, to allow for enough material to wrap around your parachute. If in doubt size to the larger size, since you can always fold the material, but it’s very difficult to stretch it!
Due to the thickness of Nomex cloth it may be unsuitable for use in very small tube diameters (e.g. 18mm, 24mm), depending on how you intend to pack the parachute.
